This is a book is written by Rick Warren that gives you false hope in your salvation. No where in this book does Rick talk about the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. If Jesus had not risen from the dead then He would be no different than the others who claim to be god. John 14:6 Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father except thru Me.
I won't give away any of the 40 day lessons, but I will say it's a great bible study and bonding experience and unravels many of the mysteries that hold us back from feeling joy, from being able to sustain meaningful relationships ... it's a great guide to embracing our purpose, feeling God's love and making meaningful connections. I mentioned this book in my women's ABF (a large group) and the majority were nodding their heads and singing it's praises. It's a great book for mentoring people new to the faith.
This book is very uplifting and thought provoking. Used in a teens class and nice to have just a few pages to read each day. I do disagree with a few things mentioned but feel like the encouragement and focus made the book worth a study. In fact, hearing other views than mine on certain beliefs caused me to study more on those topics. He does mention and I noticed early on that Mr. Warren uses some very liberal versions of the Bible from which he quotes. Some quotes when looked up weren’t at all what the scripture said. Some of the quotes were a real reach to fit his view. That’s why God expects us to study for ourselves!
Rick Warren is a man after Gods heart. His insights have helped me greatly over the past several years. He has a way of bringing today's issues out in the open and speaking frankly and lovingly from a biblical perspective. His voice is much needed during these times. I've been through this devotional before, when I first became a Christian. Now, I'm reading it with my 15 year old daughter every morning. This book has value beyond what I can describe.I doubt you would miss the money spent on it. To be honest, I have purchased multiple copies over the years and passed them out. I'd say they were worth every penny and then some.
This was the best $10 I've ever spent!! This book has truly deepened my faith and helped me grow spirtitually. The scriptures are number one, but this book is number 2 for me. Im learning so much, and it's helping my faith tremendously. It has changed my attitude about church and about fellowship and also about how to better use my TIME! I CANT thank Rick Warren enough for this great book.
I cheated. Author Rick Warren requests you take 40 days to read The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For? so you can reflect on each chapter. Instead, I read through it in 8 days. So, it is possible, okay I know, I missed out on the full impact of the book.In The Purpose Driven Life, Warren walks his readers though the theological and practical spiritual steps to living on purpose. Each chapter is a daily meditation that focuses on one topic and finishes with points to consider and questions to ask. For the expanded edition, Warren has added codes that can be scanned by a smart phone and provides access to videos that accompany the chapters. The book is broken into sections on living for God’s pleasure, living as part of God’s family, living to imitate Christ, service and missions. At the conclusion of the book are numerous appendixes for additional resources, including some free ones, and Bible verses.Lately, I have been complaining about generic Christian books and my frustration over them. In many ways I can see how The Purpose Driven Life provides nothing really new and is generic. But even when I read the first edition over 8 years ago I never got the sense that Warren was trying to provide breakthrough ideas. Instead, I think he was attempting to make 2,000 years of theological study fit within a container that was understandable to the general public. The reaction and book sales make it clear that he accomplished his goal. So in many ways I feel like generic Christian books are trying to copy the Warren success, rather than this book being part of the problem.I really do suggest reading this book as a group. I can remember when I did this in weeks one and two our group discussed questions like what job does God want me to have. But by the time we dug into the content the question really became what kind of person does God want me to be. Ironically and results may vary, that is when jobs and other personal requests opened for the group. The Purpose Driven Life was one of the most successful group studies I have been part of.I really would recommend this book as a small group tool or a book that would be helpful to a new believer. Even for those who have been around for awhile it can be very useful. I found myself contemplating Warren’s comments about how the church is filled with servant-leaders not servants. And the new chapters on envy and people pleasing are highly insightful. All in all, the expanded edition only helps to build on the success of this highly popular book.             Review Copy Provided by Thomas Nelson
I Highly recommend this book for any age, for anyone who is struggling with anything. It is much better and more informative than the first book he wrote years ago. I passed this book to a friend when I was done..she really likes it. It is an easy read for those of us who are NOT bible scholars and for those of us who DON'T have the bible memorized. It gives you a different perspective backed up by bible scripture. I read this book front to back in two days..I couldn't put it down. I made notes about myself along the way...it really helped me see a different side of the problems I am going thru.
Our church asked us to participate in 40 days of reading churches. This book was used for anyone who wanted to engage in the process. What a great way to start the new year. Many people had read the book before, I had not. I'm so glad I participated through bible study and Citigroup. Lives have changed and old ideas discarded that kept us bound. I urge you to read this book over 40 days. See what happens to your walk.
